2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Management Change Follows Poor Response
The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last autumn.
On Wednesday, the company's top executive David Ismailer updated employees about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a clearer direction.
The president stated that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news echoes a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was informative. It validated the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer brand.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to consideration and revamped the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the incredible advancement you’ve made, I am thrilled to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Director of the team. Following several months of talks, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s leadership and background in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the last 15 years creating and overseeing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

The appointee presently holds the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends.
