A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a difficult period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since spring of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and regular reactions on court had caused observers to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an improved service.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial tour title, gained dominance to create a final set.

He defended 4 initial opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
